Crested Butte - Known as The Last Great Colorado Ski Town, is just that and much, much more. If you are familiar with Crested Butte, you know that we are famous for world class alpine skiing and snowboarding, as well as miles and miles of cross-country skiing. Under the new ownership of Tim and Diane Mueller, the ski resort is undergoing a $200 million base area rennovation, along with several on-mountain improvements, with more on the way. The new Red Lady Lodge has been approved and will be under construction in Spring '08 at the top of the Red Lady lift. The old and aging Gothic Building at the ski area base was demolished in September, in anticipation of the new Cimmarron Building which will house over 90 high-end luxury ski-in ski-out residences.
As for Summer, most locals will tell you they moved here to ski and ride, but stayed here for the summers. The same holds true for the many second homeowners who spend a considerable amount of time here in Crested Butte each year. Summer offers so many exciting and diverse activities, it's hard to choose. From hiking to mountain biking, to golf, fly fishing, jeeping, and just plain relaxing, there's no better place to be during summertime. With cool crisp evenings, and sunny days in the 70's, the climate is simply perfect.
If you're not familiar with the area, perhaps your next vaction should include Crested Butte. Getting here is easier than ever, with seasonal non-stop jet service from Dallas via American Airlines, and year round service from Denver via United Airlines. Of course, driving to the Crested Butte area is always an option, via our year round and well maintained highways.
The real estate market here in Crested Butte has slowed somewhat during the past six months, due to several factors. First, the large amount of national media over the housing market, construction industry, and financial institutions have not help sales anywhere. Second, we have realized a small correction from the record pace of local real estate sales closed from 2003 through 2006. Third, we have an ample supply of real estate listings giving buyers more choices than ever in the Crested Butte area. As a result of this excess inventory, buyers are taking more time to make their selections and close on the real estate transaction. However, there are still many great values in real estate opportunities in the Crested Butte area. Shop around and compare, and I think you'll find Crested Butte real estate to be a better value than most other ski areas in Colorado.
