Snodgrass Update

In what is positive news for Crested Butte and skiers who love long perfectly pitched lift-served intermediate terrain with stunning views, the U.S. Geological Survey report on Crested Butte’s Snodgrass Mountain has been made public by the US Forest Service. In light of the report and the US Forest Service’s comments, CBMR will be refining its Master Plan over the next several weeks to address concerns in the report and will then submit the plan to the Forest Service. The Forest Service has told CBMR that as long as the plan addresses the geology concerns and stays within specified guidelines it will accept the Snodgrass proposal. The powder has arrived in Crested Butte. With a season snowfall of 160" so far, Extremes fans welcomed the opening of the Headwall and Teocalli Bowl last week after the diligent efforts of CBMR Ski Patrol managing the unusual snow pack.

Attention Colorado Front Rangers: Daily bus service is slated to begin January 14th between Denver and Gunnison. The service which is funded by the Colorado Department of Transportation leaves Gunnison at 7:15 am and arrives to Denver at 12:15 pm. Return trip departs the Denver Greyhound Station at 2 pm and arrives back in Gunnison at 7 pm.

The winter calendar in Crested Butte continues to offer fun options throughout the days and nights. February brings the anticipated return of The North Face Masters, a three-stop big mountain snowboarding tour on the 12th through the 15th. With the 18th Annual U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Championships, Rippin' Chicks camps, First Light Skiing and the more leisurely Moonlight Snowshoe tours, there is something for everyone.

Lots of snow and direct flights made the holiday season a success as more new guests came in from around the country and the world. Despite the uncertain economy, lift ticket revenues for the ski company were up 18% over last year reflecting the new business strategy of targeting guests who truly appreciate the distinctive experience of Crested Butte.
